100 new ambulances on streets of London this summer

LAS continues investment in fleet by adding news ambulances and fast responder cars

LONDON — London Ambulance Service (LAS) paramedics will put 104 new 519 Mercedes Sprinter ambulances into service between now and the end of August.

The introduction of the new fleet of vehicles is the start of a three-year investment that will add another 140 new ambulances during 2016 and 2017. The new ambulances offer a high degree of reliability and more efficient engines.

“It is essential that we continue to invest in our fleet of vehicles to ensure our staff can continue to deliver the best possible care,” said Sean Westrope, LAS director for fleet and logistics.

As part of this program, 60 new Volkswagen Tiguan fast responder cars will also be responding to emergency calls by the end of the financial year.

Under future plans, new ambulances will be regularly introduced into the fleet to ensure no vehicle is more than seven years old.
