YUBA CITY, Calif. — Bi-County Ambulance celebrated half-a-century of service in Yuba and Sutter counties during a ceremony at the company’s Yuba City headquarters on Wednesday, March 11.

Alex Bumpus, the company’s current president and CEO, spoke about the company founded by his father, Kelly Bumpus, in 1976.

“My father started this company with a commitment to serve this community with professionalism and heart,” Alex Bumpus said. “While we have grown and evolved, the foundation he built — trust, service, and dedication — continues to guide every call we respond to today.”

Local elected officials, first responder partners, healthcare leaders, community members, and BCA staff attended the event.

Bi-County Ambulance began as a small, locally focused operation with a simple mission: to provide reliable, compassionate care when neighbors needed it most. Over the past five decades, that mission has remained constant, even as the organization has grown into a critical regional emergency response provider.

A special tribute was held in recognition of founder Kelly Bumpus, whose vision established the foundation for emergency medical services in the region. The ceremony

included a commemorative tree dedication symbolizing growth, resilience, and the deep roots BCA has established in the community.

Speakers reflected on the countless paramedics, EMTs, dispatchers, and support staff who have carried forward that legacy, serving residents during some of their most vulnerable moments.

During the celebration, the company unveiled recent facility upgrades and training tools designed to support its workforce and enhance operational readiness. The improvements reflect the organization’s continued investment in modern equipment, advanced training, and infrastructure that enables first responders to deliver the highest level of patient care, Alex Bumpus said.

“Our community places extraordinary trust in us every time someone calls 911,” he said. “We are committed to ensuring our teams have the training, tools, and facilities necessary to meet the demands of a growing and evolving region.”

BCA partners closely with local fire departments, law enforcement agencies, hospitals, and public agencies to coordinate seamless emergency response across the Yuba - Sutter area.

As healthcare and emergency services continue to evolve, the company reaffirmed its long-term vision to invest in workforce development, embrace innovation, strengthen partnerships, and maintain the highest standards of patient care.

“Today is about celebrating our past — but it is also about looking forward,” Bumpus added. “We are committed to ensuring that the next generation can rely on the same trusted service that has defined this organization for five decades.”

Bi-County Ambulance serves as a critical emergency medical services provider throughout the Yuba - Sutter region, responding to thousands of calls each year with highly trained paramedics and EMTs dedicated to protecting the health and safety of the community.
