AVA, N.Y. — A 64-year-old man was seriously injured Tuesday after being run over by a bulldozer he was driving at the Oneida County Landfill, deputies said.
Deputies responded to the landfill in the town of Ava around 8:41 a.m. for a report of a bulldozer that had struck a pedestrian, according to a Friday news release from the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators determined that Wasyl Hrim, of Boonville, was operating a John Deere 850L bulldozer when he stopped and got out to open the back door of a tractor-trailer, deputies said.
Once Hrim was out of the bulldozer, it began moving forward. Hrim attempted to climb back onto the bulldozer but fell off the tracks and was run over, deputies said.
Hrim was airlifted to Upstate University Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, deputies said.
State Police, Boonville Ambulance, West Leyden Fire Department and Mercy Flight assisted at the scene.
