DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — The former Davidson County EMS director arrested Friday on charges of embezzling is accused of taking more than $15,000 from the Thomasville Rescue Squad over five years, a spokeswoman with the State Bureau of Investigation said today.

SBI agents arrested Doug Alan Lowe, 49, of 134 Bay Tree Lane in Thomasville, on Friday and charged him with 21 counts of embezzlement by a public officer or trustee, said Jennifer Canada, the SBI spokeswoman. He was also charged with forgery of endorsement and uttering forged endorsement.

According to arrest warrants, Lowe is accused of embezzling money from the Thomasville Rescue Squad between Jan. 24, 2005, and Sept. 10 of this year while he served as the rescue squad’s treasurer.
