EL MONTE, Calif. — The 14 Calif. lifeguards who were fired in Sept. for appearing in uniform in a parody of the South Korean hit music video “Gangnam Style” have gotten their jobs back.
The City Council of El Monte voted to rehire them pending a review of the lifeguards’ aquatic center management and policies and procedures, according to the Associated Press.
Donning city-issued swimsuits and filmed at the aquatic center, city officials said the lifeguards violated employee conduct standards. The lifeguards argued they were off the clock when they shot the video.
Their parody video has garnered millions of views, and many have rallied behind the lifeguards since their firing.
