ELKTON, Ohio — An injured and almost naked Ohio inmate escaped by jumping from a moving ambulance after assaulting the EMT treating him.

The County Sheriff’s department arrested William Swagger, 24, Wednesday night after he jumped out a moving ambulance to escape Tuesday, WKBN reported.

Authorities said Swagger injured himself at the county jail pod when he walked over to the railing and attempted to slip to the ground. An ambulance was called, and he was on the way to the hospital when he reportedly leaped from the ambulance after assaulting the EMT treating him, who had removed most of his clothing for treatment.

The search for Swagger began before 3:00 p.m., and a couple of witnesses reported seeing a man described as approximately 5-foot, 8- inches, with a husky build and “blondish” hair including an off-duty corrections officer that works at the Elkton federal prison.

During a Monday hearing, a judge ordered the release of Swagger, but the Struthers Municipal Court ordered him to be held. Swagger’s initial charges include drug possessions, a first-degree misdemeanor, seat violation, and failure to comply.
