Man sentenced to 6 years in prison for attacking medic

The patient became combative as paramedics and firefighters tried to put him on a stretcher

CHICAGO — A man was sentenced to six years in prison after he bit a paramedic and injured a firefighter in 2014.

Pinder received a six-year sentence and a five-year one on two felony charges for aggravated assault. He will serve the two sentences concurrently.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported paramedics and firefighters responded to a call for a person down. When they attempted to put the man, Brandon Pinder, onto a stretcher, the man bit paramedic Kelly Begley in the calf.

Pinder, 27, also jumped on the back of a Chicago Fire Department lieutenant, injuring his shoulder.

Begley and the firefighter were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
