Man high on flakka tries to break into jail

The man crashed his car into the jail’s front doors and then into the fence outside the building

VERO BEACH, Fla. — A man high on flakka tried to break into a jail, ramming his car into the building’s door, then crashed into the fence outside the jail and finally became entangled in the razor wire.

A security video captured Patrick Rempe, 24, crashing is car into the jail’s front doors, which didn’t open. He then continued to accelerate, trying to force the doors open as smoke came out of his vehicle.

Rempe then drove at a high rate of speed, ramming into the fence outside of the building. He came out of the vehicle and climbed up the fence, becoming entangled in the razor wire.

Indian River County EMS were called to remove Rempe from the fence. After being removed, Rempe spat on one of the deputies.

Rempe was treated at the hospital for injuries sustained during the crash and while entangled in the razor wire. He admitted to deputies that he was “high on flakka,” and that he wanted to visit friends who were in jail.

“This is what drugs do to you. Flakka is poisoning our youth. Fortunately, none of our deputies were injured and our facility wasn’t compromised,” Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar said.
