LAUREL, Md. — An EMS veteran saved a woman, who was attempting to die by suicide, after stumbling upon the scene by chance.

FOX5 DC reported that EMS Lieutenant Scott Globerman, a 33-year veteran, was returning from a crash scene when he stumbled upon a woman who was about to jump off an overpass.

Globerman, who was transporting a patient at the time, stopped and enlisted a bystander for help.

“When I tell you, just grab her arm if we have a chance,” he said.

The woman, who Globerman said appeared distressed, pulled her shirt over her head and only said that she “must wait until 5 p.m.”

Globerman and the bystander were able to pull her to safety, and the responder said it is a moment he will never forget.

“If you think someone is at risk for a suicide attempt ask them about it and don’t be afraid to ask the specific questions of do you have a plan, do you have the means to do it,” clinical psychologist Dr. Gregory Jones said.

The woman is now at a hospital undergoing a psychiatric evaluation.
