CAMAS, Wash. — An off-duty firefighter vacationing in Disneyland helped save a man in cardiac arrest.
Ben Porter, a Camas-Washougal firefighter-EMT, was on his way back to the Disneyland Hotel Aug. 18 when he saw a man convulsing and being lowered to the ground by another person and a police officer, according to KGW News.
“(Porter’s) actions are a reflection of the outstanding service he continues to provide to the citizens of Camas and Washougal,” Fire Chief Nick Swinhart said.
Porter noticed the man was not breathing and had no pulse and began to administer CPR.
An off-duty paramedic stopped to assist Porter, and a nurse also arrived with an automatic defibrillator. Porter operated the AED while the medic continued CPR.
The trio was able to revive the man, who made a full recovery at the hospital.
