SAN FRANCISCO — Colleagues gathered Thursday to mourn a fellow firefighter-EMT who died of stomach cancer.

Firefighters saluted Jalal Aineb as he was taken to a mosque for prayer services. Aineb, a 12-year veteran, immigrated to the United States from Morocco in 1989. He was diagnosed with stage four stomach cancer December 2016.

Aineb was remembered by community members as someone who was always willing to lend a helping hand to his immigrant community, ABC7 reported.

Aineb leaves behind his wife and two children. A GoFundMe page has raised over $33,000 for Aineb’s family.
