WALNUT CREEK, Calif. — A firefighter was stripped of his EMT license after fighting with officers at a firefighters’ ball in October.

Lontavious Johnson, 32, and Andrew Desmond, 31, with the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, were charged with assault and battery against police officers during the Oct. 23 gathering, reported NBC. Both firefighters have been on leave since the incident.

Officers responded to the ball after reports of guests being belligerent and drunk. Upon arriving, Desmond and Johnson engaged in a confrontation with officers after they refused to leave and cooperate with police.

“This is extremely rare,” Aaron Doyle, a Contra Costa EMS official, said. “I’ve never ever seen [this] in my career.”

As part of a court deal, Johnson has agreed to give up his EMT license; the other conditions of his settlement are confidential. The specifics of Desmond’s settlement were not made public, although his attorney said his client has “taken responsibility for it and feels very bad about it and wants to move forward.”
