LAMESA, Texas — Medical Arts Hospital added “In God We Trust” signs on all their ambulances, following two Texas police departments that added the same stickers on their vehicles.
The stickers are on the exterior and interior of the ambulances, just above the rear doors.
“Anyone who gets in the back of this truck we’ll take care of, it doesn’t matter what religion or what their belief is, we will take care of them regardless,” Joey Parks, EMS director at Medical Arts Hospital, told KLBK.
Hospital CEO Leitha Stokes said she made the decision while the hospital was adding breast cancer awareness ribbons on its ambulances, and everyone at the hospital agreed with her.
“We believe that the words ‘In God We Trust’ are watching over the patients as we transport them,” Stokes said. “Also on the inside of the vehicles we have those words so as the patient is being transported they can look at that.”
The Freedom From Religion Foundation protested before decisions like this, but Stokes said she is confident in her choice.
Other EMS agencies in the area are planning on getting their stickers as well.
