City says ambulance calls increasing during heat wave

The team of paramedics has been responding to about 11 emergencies a day

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — The brutal heat wave continues to send people to the hospital.

Phones at the 911 dispatch center for Las Vegas, North Las Vegas and Clark County have been ringing off the hook. This weekend alone, dispatchers handled nearly 150 heat-related illness calls.

Sunday was the hottest day of the weekend, tying an all-time record in Las Vegas at 117 degrees. Paramedics said they’ve been working non-stop since temperatures started to soar.
