CLARKSVILLE, TENN. — An Emergency Medical Services crew had to rescue themselves Wednesday morning after an ambulance parked in an EMS station’s garage bay caught on fire. The fire, at Clarksville EMS Station No. 23 on Highway 149, started around 9:45 a.m. in the ambulance’s cab, according to Sgt. Brian Prentice of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
Fire crews were able to contain the blaze within 20 minutes but the fire quickly consumed the ambulance and charred the inside of the garage bay.
Two EMS crew members were in the building at the time of the fire. One was transported to a local hospital after complaining about breathing problems, according to Elizabeth Black, spokeswoman for Montgomery County. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined but Sgt. Brian Prentice said it has been determined that it was not a case of arson.
