NEW YORK — A Brooklyn hospital has agreed to pay $4.9 million to the widow of a motorcyclist struck by an ambulance.
According to the Daily News, court papers say Maimonides Medical Center reached the settlement after initially trying to prevent a surveillance video from being shown at the wrongful death civil trial.
The victim, Jesus Santiago, was killed May 26, 2012, as the Maimonides ambulance struck his car while responding to an emergency.
The paper says the video contradicted the sworn statements by the ambulance driver and her partner. According to court papers, they claimed the ambulance came to a full stop three times before striking Santiago.
The News says papers filed last month in Brooklyn Supreme Court stated the settlement figure.
The hospital declined to comment.
