NEW ORLEANS — Firefighters rescued a patient and an EMS provider after an ambulance fell into a canal Monday morning.

NOLA.com reported that the East Bank Consolidated Fire Department helped rescue the driver of the East Jefferson General Hospital ambulance and its patient on board.

The EMS provider said he had to swerve to avoid another vehicle that turned in front of him.

Both the provider and patient were transported to the hospital for treatment. The patient received minor injuries and is in stable condition. The EMS provider was “shaken up, but otherwise OK,” according to hospital officials.
