JASPER, Tenn. — A Tennessee town’s recent purchase of citywide membership to AirMedCare Network has saved tens of thousands of dollars for air ambulance flights.

Times Free Press reported that Jasper Mayor Paul Evans urged residents to sign up for the plan in a recent town meeting. He said one resident’s recent flight bill was $34,000, but the town’s membership covered what insurance would not pay.

“They didn’t have to pay anything,” Mayor Evans said.

At least eight residents have saved money from the plan, and Mayor Evans said full coverage for a family throughout the 34-state AirMedCare Network is just $35 a year.

People who are not under a town plan like Jasper’s can get the coverage for $65 a year.

AirMedCare representative Jimmy Morse said the network should have services in 40 states with more than 250 bases soon.

“Hopefully, you never need it, but it’s there on your worst day to defray the cost of the flight,” Morse said.
