Erin Metzger dispatched a deputy and walked him through the entire delivery process

BELGRADE, Mont. — A 911 dispatcher helped a husband and deputy deliver a baby over the phone after receiving a call about a woman going into labor.

NBC Montana reported that Erin Metzger got a call at 1:35 a.m. from a man who said his wife was going into labor and there was no time to get to a hospital. Metzger dispatched Deputy Colter Metcalf to the home.

Metzger used her training and medical protocol checklist to walk Metcalf through the whole delivery process, which she said lasted about 15 minutes, and Wyatt Sample was born.

“We deal with so many bad things that to get something so amazing, it definitely makes me want to come back,” Metzger said. “I’m not scared to answer that 911 call, because maybe it could be a baby.”

Metzger met with the family and said the incident made her grateful for her job as a dispatcher.

“They keep telling me they’ll never be able to repay me for what I’ve done,” Metzger said. “It helped me kind of pull out of that darkness that we see so often.”
