WILSON, N.C. — Two ambulance workers received minor injuries on Friday afternoon after a car ran a stoplight on U.S. 301 and hit a Tar Heel Medical Transport van, troopers said.
The ambulance was traveling south on U.S. 301 and turning onto N.C. 117, said N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper K. Beaman. The driver of a small passenger car apparently saw the stoplight too late.
The car hit the ambulance, which spun around and flipped on its side, Beaman said. Speed wasn’t a factor in the wreck.
The two emergency medical workers in the ambulance were treated for what are believed to be minor injuries, officials said. The passenger of the car wasn’t injured.
“Luckily there were no patients at the time in the ambulance,” Beaman said.
The driver of the ambulance had some lacerations on his arms. The other rescuer was undergoing X-rays.
The driver of the car was cited for failure to stop at a stoplight in the wreck that occurred at 3:36 p.m.
Wilson County sheriff’s deputies directed traffic while troopers investigated and cleared the roadway. The wreck slowed traffic, Beaman said.
Wilson County Emergency Medical Services and Contentnea Volunteer firefighters also responded to the wreck as well as Johnston Ambulance.
The names of those involved in the wreck weren’t immediately available.
