NEWBURY, England — An amputee patient had to wait six hours in an ambulance without pain relief after the vehicle was pulled over by police.
Dave Chalcroft, 53, was being transferred from a hospital to another after undergoing surgery for a diabetic ulcer. His leg was amputated below the knee.
The ambulance was pulled over for not having an “MOT”, which is a mandatory test of vehicle safety required in the U.K., BBC reported.
“The policeman said it was the weirdest thing he’d had to do, pulling an NHS ambulance over,” Chalcroft said. “He’d checked the ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) system four times and it definitely had no MOT. I was gobsmacked, and asked him whether he was having a laugh.”
The vehicle was not allowed on the road, therefore Chalcroft had to wait for hours for a replacement ambulance to pick him up.
