Hiker lost in mountains for over 24 hours rescued

The woman, who was in her 60s, was transported to the hospital

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Emergency personnel on Wednesday rescued a female hiker who had been lost in the East Mountains for more than a day.

The woman, who is in her 60s, was tired and dehydrated but doing well, Bernalillo County spokesman Larry Gallegos said in a news release issued late Wednesday afternoon.

She was transported to a hospital for evaluation.

Gallegos said Air-1 Metro Air Support Unit pilot Larry Koren of the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office, Battalion Commander Devon Sullivan and Rescue Specialist John Turrietta of the Bernalillo County Fire Department, New Mexico State Search and Rescue, and Bernalillo County Emergency Communications took part in the operation.
