WASHINGTON — The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has announced it will conduct a test of the Emergency Alert System and Wireless Emergency Alerts Oct. 4, according to a statement.
Both systems will be tested at the same time, starting at 2:20 p.m. ET. The wireless test will be the second-ever FEMA test to be sent to all cell phones nationwide. The message will read in either English or Spanish, depending on the phone’s settings.
The FEMA statement says that the wireless test will be accessible to everyone, as it is accompanied by a unique tone and vibration.
The alert system test, which will be sent to radios and TVs, is the seventh-ever.
FEMA states that if the test does not occur Oct. 4 for any reason, the backup date will be Oct. 11.
