COLUMBIA, S.C. — A South Carolina hospital has launched a campaign to help fund a specialized pediatric ambulance.

The Prisma Health Midlands Foundation already successfully raised $263,000 of its $425,000 goal for the new critical care ambulance at Prisma Health Children’s Hospital-Midlands through its “New Wheels for Precious Cargo” campaign, according to a statement from the foundation.

The rig will feature two isolettes for transporting premature twins and be staffed by specialized care teams for neonatal and pediatric intensive care patients.

Donors can choose donation tiers from $50-$1,000 to fund specific elements needed, such as a DVD system to help comfort children being transported and child-sized stretchers, or donate any custom amount.

“When babies are critically premature or children are severely ill and at another hospital within a 16-county region of S.C., the Pediatric Transport team at Prisma Health-Midlands is called, no matter what time of day,” the foundation said in a statement.

The foundation hopes to reach its fundraising goal by December 31, according to ABC Columbia.
