Paramedic discards girl’s severed fingertips

After frantic ambulance search to find missing pieces, surgeons disinfected fingertips, reattached them

ZIRL, Austria — A paramedic with the Red Cross in Austria accidentally discarded a 3-year-old girl’s severed fingertips.

The fingertips had been thrown out with garbage from the ambulance that responded to the scene where the little girl had jammed her hand in a door frame, according to the Austrian Independent.

“As Emily was waiting for the operation to reattach the fingers we were told that the fingertips had gone missing,” said the girl’s mother, Iris Lengauer-Stockner. “It was horrific.”

The paramedic responsible has been suspended.
