WYCKOFF, N.J. — A New Jersey man has accused a private EMS crew of dropping his father from a stretcher and making other mistakes while responding to a call about his father’s worsening COVID-19.
Spencer Fox, the son of Ed Fox, 68, who is currently on a ventilator due to COVID-19, says a New Jersey Mobile Health Care crew responded to his 911 call about a week and a half ago when his father’s condition was worsening and he was struggling to breathe, according to News 12 New Jersey. Fox’s son said that the crew’s equipment wasn’t working as they tried to take his father’s vitals, and that his father fell and hit his head after they sat him up in bed and then left the room. The son alleged that the crew then forgot to buckle his father into a Reeves stretcher, causing him to fall out when they lifted it up.
A Wyckoff Police report states that the son ran out of the house and told officers he thought his father would die under the EMS crew’s care. The police report also notes that the patient was turning blue and couldn’t catch his breath, and that a mask had been placed on his face but there was no oxygen source connected to it.
New Jersey Assemblywoman Holly Schepisi responded to the incident, telling News 12 that she believes the state health department should investigate the case and ensure private EMS companies are following proper protocols and procedures.
