VENICE, Calif. — Actor Harrison Ford has been hospitalized with serious injuries after a single-engine plane he was piloting crashed onto a golf course shortly after takeoff from Santa Monica Airport, Ian Gregor of the Federal Aviation Administration told NBC News.

He suffered injuries including lacerations to the head and possible fractures after the World War II training plane crashed onto Penmar Golf Club.

Fire department officials addressed Ford’s condition at a Thursday press conference.

“He suffered basically some moderate trauma and he was alert and conscious and paramedics from LAFD transported the patient to the local area hospital,” an official said.

Two men, reportedly doctors, were golfing at the time and came to his aid.

The 72-year-old “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones” actor is an aviation enthusiast who often flies out of the airport, the Associated Press reports.
