CHICAGO — Chicago police say gunfire from a moving vehicle preceded a multi-car accident where a city bus crashed into a light pole and injured 11 people.
Police spokesman Mike Sullivan says no one was shot when gunfire erupted around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday on the city’s South Side.
Police and Chicago Transit Authority officials say a car crashed into the bus, which then ran into a pole. Authorities won’t say whether the shooting caused the crash or targeted one of the vehicles involved.
Fire department officials say 11 people were taken to hospitals, including two who were seriously hurt. Sullivan says many of the injuries were caused by shattered glass.
Witnesses reported seeing gunmen get out of a truck and start firing. Police aren’t confirming the reports.
No arrests have been made.
