DETROIT — A man has been charged with attempted murder in the stabbing and slashing of two Detroit emergency medical technicians.

Michael Montgomery was arrested Tuesday night, hours after EMTs Alfredo Rojas and Kelly Adams were attacked while helping a woman with an injured ankle on a Detroit street.

They survived and were released from a hospital Wednesday.

The 30-year-old Montgomery was charged Thursday with six crimes in the incident. He has requested a court-appointed lawyer.

Separately, Montgomery is charged with first-degree murder in a 2006 cold case, and kidnapping and rape in a 2005 assault. Prosecutor Kym Worthy says the confluence of the cases this week is “astounding.”
