GREENBELT, Md. — A man accused of attacking EMTs, stealing their ambulance and causing a crash that killed a man pled guilty to several charges, including carjacking, manslaughter and driving under the influence, The Washington Post reported.
Sebastian Isaksen, 34, was arrested in December after the crash that caused a chain reaction involving a dozen cars.
EMS providers witnessed Isaksen rear-end a car on Dec. 14. As they approached him to provide assistance, Isaksen attacked them and stole their ambulance.
A high-speed chase followed until Isaksen lost control of the ambulance and crashed into a car, killing the driver and causing a chain-reaction crash.
Alvin Hargrave, 77, died after the crash and a pregnant woman in the car with him was seriously injured.
A spokesperson for the Prince George’s County Fire/EMS said the incident was “horrific” and “extremely unusual”.
Isaksen’s blood-alcohol level at the time was more than double the state’s limit, and it wasn’t the first time he was arrested for a DUI.
Prosecutors are asking for a 25-year sentence.
