DALLAS — Relying on an anonymous source, WFAA aired a report saying a 9/11 firefighter — now famous for refusing to cast his electoral vote for President-elect Trump — never responded to the 9/11 terror attacks.
Christopher Suprun made national news when he published an op-ed piece in the New York Times explaining why he, as a Republican member of the Electoral College from Texas, will not cast his vote for Trump on Dec. 19. In that piece, Suprun said he was a firefighter who responded to the 9/11 terror attacks at the Pentagon.
The source, whose face and voice are obscured, says he knows Suprun and that he did not respond to the 9/11 attacks.
“He claimed to be a first responder with the Manassas Park (Va.) Fire Department on September 11, 2001 and personally told us stories ‘I was fighting fire that day at the Pentagon.’ No, I was on a medic unit that day at the Pentagon and you make a phone call to Manassas Park and you find out that he wasn’t even employed there until October 2001,” the anonymous first responder said.
EMS1 made several unsuccessful attempts to contact Suprun for comment. However, he did address the claims during a live chat on Reddit.
“I was a part of the response to the Pentagon attacks, as a volunteer member of the Dale City fire department in northern Virginia. That story (on WFAA) exhibits a reckless disregard for the truth,” Suprun wrote.
“I never claimed to be a first responder on 9/11 with the Manassas Park Fire Dept. I was a volunteer firefighter at the time for the Dale City Fire Dept. when I responded to the attacks at the Pentagon. Later, I was hired by the City of Manassas Park. We’ve corrected the record with the journalist who wrote that story ... I know where I was on that tragic day.”
