CARDIFF, Wales — A Welsh paramedic expressed his internal struggle after witnessing nearly a dozen ambulances filled with patients outside an ER last weekend.
“It fills me with a deep sadness to finally admit that I’m not sure how much longer I can continue in this role I used to love,” wrote the paramedic. In an editorial published by Wales Online, the paramedic expressed his concern and decline of love for the profession, stating he feels, “upset, hopeless, ashamed, guilty and desperate in my empathy.”
Wales Online reported that many of the ambulances waited “for hours” to discharge their patients to the hospital.
A hospital spokesman stated that the increased influx of patients last Sunday was a third higher than usual, reported the Daily Mail.
“The health board is sorry for the delays caused to patients and their families and ask that the public only use its emergency unit for emergencies,” Steve Curry, the interim chief operating officer for Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, said.
