NEWARK, N.J. — Sureveillance cameras captured the moment a mother and her five children were forced to jump from their burning third-floor apartment.
The Wednesday night blaze is believed to have started by a candle left burning in the family’s bathroom. They family had just moved into the apartment and was just one day from getting the electricity turned on, according to ABC 7.
An off-duty EMT was walking past the apartment building when he saw smoke and went inside to alert the residents.
Firefighters responding to the call were able to contain the fire before it spread to a nearby gas station. The injured residents were taken to the hospital and listed in a stable condition.
