STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — A pedestrian died Friday evening after being struck by a Stafford County fire truck that was responding to a call.

The pedestrian was struck in the 500 block of Warrenton Road at 8:42 p.m., according to a news release from Bill Kennedy, public information officer for the sheriff’s office.

Kennedy said the sheriff’s office is investigating the incident. The man was struck while crossing Warrenton Road, he said. Kennedy added that the preliminary investigation indicates the man was not walking at a crosswalk.

The fire truck was responding to an auto accident on I-95, Kennedy said. The preliminary investigation indicates that the male pedestrian was not using a crosswalk and that it occurred in a darkened section of the six-lane road.

Kennedy said the driver of the fire truck tried to evade the pedestrian but was unable to and struck the man. The man was transported to a local hospital where he later died of injuries.

The identity of the pedestrian and the identity of the driver of the fire truck are not being released, Kennedy said.

Kennedy said the investigation is ongoing and no additional information will be made available at this time.
