SAN ANTONIO — The 17-year-old girl who died after being stabbed Tuesday after school on the South Side has been identified as Megan Hernandez.
An autopsy will be conducted Wednesday, according to the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s office.
Hernandez was stabbed five times in the torso at about 3 p.m. while she was holding her baby girl at a bus stop at Mission Road and Hansford Street, according to police. She was pronounced dead just after 5 p.m. atUniversity Hospital, the medical examiner’s office said.
Hernandez was a student at the Por Vida Academy Charter High School in the 1100 block of Mission Road.
Eduardo Reyes, 17, was charged with murder in the stabbing. Reyes had been in a relationship with Hernandez, but police said Tuesday it was unclear whether he was the child’s father.
Reyes approached Hernandez while she was waiting for the bus after school and the two began to argue, according to police. Reyes pulled a knife and stabbed Hernandez five times, according to police.
A bystander grabbed the baby as the attack began and ran to a relative’s house nearby, police said Tuesday.
Police said Wednesday that Robert Ortiz, 15, tried to help Hernandez after Reyes started attacking her. He was cut on the arm and emergency medical technicians treated him at the scene.
Reyes ran away, according to police. An off-duty officer caught him a few blocks away in the 1500 block of Roosevelt Avenue with blood staining his hands and shorts, according to police.
Police also charged Reyes with endangering a child and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was being held Wednesday at the Bexar County Jail, with bail totaling $400,000.
Hernandez’s baby was unharmed, police said.
