FORT WORTH, Texas — A swarm of bees stung eight people — including six first-responders — Sunday afternoon in Fort Worth, officials said.
The bees were living inside a dilapidated house in the 3700 block of Galvez Avenue, Fort Worth Fire Department spokesman Richard Harrison said. Fire officials received an emergency call about an allergic reaction after two people had been stung by bees shortly after 4:30 p.m.
Harrison said a fire engine carrying four firefighters went out to the house. As the truck approached, all the firefighters got stung. Two paramedics from MedStar were also stung, Harrison said.
Harrison said that after the bees attacked, “everyone was sort of looking at each other and saying, ‘what do we do now?’”
One paramedic and a civilian who had been stung more than 100 times were hospitalized, Harrison said. The others only suffered a few stings.
The owner has called a professional beekeeper to get rid of the bees, Harrison said. Fire officials are no longer at the scene.
Last month, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that a couple and their two miniature horses were attacked by thousands of bees in Pantego. The couple susustained hundreds of stings but survived, but the horses died despite the best efforts of firefighters and paramedics.
