NIXA, Mo. — An off-duty Mo. firefighter was able to save an apartment complex after he extinguishing the flames he saw before they spread.
Firefighter Tommy Goran of the Nix Fire Protection District was on his way home from his second job as an EMT when he saw what he initially thought were Christmas lights in an apartment, according to KSPR.
Firefighter Goran found that the apartment’s deck was on fire and no one was home.
He called 911, but instead of waiting for crews to arrive, he scaled the outside of the building with a fire extinguisher and was able to contain the blaze in four minutes. Investigators said cigarette butts in a plastic pail caused the fire.
“I am pretty sure I’ve inherited a new nickname — Spider-man or spider monkey,” Firefighter Goran said.
