HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — A firefighter-paramedic died suddenly March 9 while on the job.
According to his obituary, 22-year veteran Hollywood Fire Rescue engineer and paramedic Daryel Richards, 58, was set to retire this year after a long career at the department.
Richards studied medicine in New York before moving to Florida, where he taught medicine and became a first responder.
Richards was described as someone who loved his job and had a passion for helping people.
Governor Rick Scott ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in honor of Richards.
