ARNOLD, Pa. — A firefighter was injured after being thrown from a fire truck as it was responding to a house fire Tuesday morning.
AKVNews.com reported that the incident happened as the fire truck was rounding a turn and the passenger front door opened. It immediately threw the firefighter to the street. The rig’s driver and a paramedic stopped the truck to evaluate the firefighter lying near a sidewalk.
The firefighter was conscious and remained lying on the street until another EMS unit arrived on scene. The firefighter sustained a head injury and back injury from the fall. He has since been treated and released from the hospital. Fire officials are not releasing the firefighter’s name.
The rig’s driver drove himself to the hospital for a mandatory drug and alcohol test, according to the report. His results were negative.
The cause of the incident appears to be a failed door latch. The truck has since been pulled from service.
