Denver paramedic division sets new record for wildfire team deployments

The Denver Health Paramedic Division has sent a total 15 paramedics to support crews in active wildfires

DENVER — A paramedic division reached an all-time high number of paramedics deployed when they sent two more to help crews at active wildfires.

Denver Health reported that their paramedic division deployed fireline paramedic Will Berry to the Pole Creek Fire in Wyoming and radio operator Adam Ellis to the Gibralter Fire in Montana. In doing so, they exceeded their previous record of 13 deployments in a single season with a new record of 15.

By the middle of August, the team sent paramedics to all but three of the United States’ regions. They have helped crews fighting wildfires in 10 states.

The division’s Wildland Fire Team is the only group to provide experienced paramedics with fire training and send them out to give medical support to the base camps battling the wildfires.

“When it comes to medical decisions, they have improved decision-making skills and they can make difficult decisions quickly,” Denver Health Paramedic Division Captain Josh Kennedy said. “These men and women take expert training, combined with valuable experience running calls on the streets of Denver, to wildfires all over the U.S. and it’s really raising the bar in a dangerous environment.”
