Calif. paramedic arrested for explosives charges ordered to rehab program

The man has pleaded not guilty to all charges, but was ordered to the program after missing a court appearance

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A paramedic who was arrested for setting off an explosive outside of his neighbor’s home has been ordered into a 60-day alcohol and drug treatment program as a condition for his release on bail.

According to the San Francisco Examiner, James Novello, 32, was ordered by Judge Philip Sarkisian to enter the drug and alcohol treatment program after he failed to make a court appearance Wednesday morning. Additionally, Novello must submit to electronic monitoring during his release.

The suspended paramedic faces a total of 26 felony charges including suspected possession of a destructive device, detonation of a destructive device and exploding a device with intent to injure.

He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
