MILWAUKEE — Three Milwaukee firefighters sustained minor injuries when they assisted medics who were wrestling with a patient. The patient broke free from the medics and drove off with two firefighters hanging on to the vehicle and one inside.
The driver went less than 30 feet before firefighters could stop the vehicle. All three were treated and released.
“In the process, the driver took off with two of our guys hanging on the side of the car” and one firefighter inside, trying to stop the vehicle, Milwaukee Fire Department Deputy Chief Jack Christianson told the Journal Sentinel.
Christianson said that the patient appeared to be in an altered state.
“They felt it was unsafe for him to get behind the wheel of that car, so they attempted to hold him up,” Christianson told WISN. “He broke loose, got into the car and he started the car. They tried pulling the keys out of the car, in the meantime, one of our firefighters jumped into the back seat to try and restrain him, and he managed to get the car in drive, and they ended up being dragged down the street a ways.”
