COVINGTON, Ga. — Animal control officials say two Georgia elementary students were bitten by a fox while they were on a school playground.

Newton County Animal Control Director Teri Key-Hoosen says the fox came onto the playground at Rocky Plains Elementary School in Covington on Wednesday and bit two 6-year-old boys.

The children were first treated by a nurse and were then taken by their parents to the Newton County Medical Center. Key-Hoosen tells WSB-TV the boys were undergoing precautionary rabies treatments.

Newton County schools spokeswoman Sherri Davis Viniard says about 50 kindergartners were on the playground at the time of the attack and a teacher was able to kick the fox to get the animals off of the students.

All outdoor activities were cancelled at the school about 35 miles southwest of downtown Atlanta.
