DULUTH, Minn. — A University of Minnesota-Duluth student is in critical condition at Regions Hospital after being found unconscious on her neighbor’s porch in the frigid cold on Saturday morning.
Alyssa Jo Lommel, 19, a UMD student from St. Cloud, suffered severe hypothermia and her family has been meeting with a plastic surgeon to discuss skin graft options for their daughter’s injuries sustained in the cold, KQDS-TV reported.
Duluth police arrived at the house on Woodland Avenue on Dec. 7 around 9:36 a.m. after a passerby reported finding a person laying outside unconscious on the porch. The overnight temperature dropped to -17 with wind chill hovering around -36.
