NIXON, Texas — A paramedic from Gonzales County EMS was killed last Thursday morning when his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck.
Matthew Griffin, 41, was driving his motorcycle to work when a pickup that was turning pulled out in front of him, The Gonzales Inquirer reported.
Griffin was taken to the hospital but didn’t survive.
Griffin had been in EMS for 20 years, and he was with the Gonzales County EMS for three. He was also a firefighter.
Fellow paramedic Mike Furrh remembered him as a generous, selfless person.
“Matt was close friends with all of us,” Furrh said. “There’ll never be another Matt Griffin. He was a man of his own, a very thorough person at work. He gave of himself, and loved his family, the Road Docs and his work.”
Griffin was also part of Texas’ EMS Roaddocs, an EMS-only motorcycle club. A motorcycle ride in his honor was held Wednesday morning.
The driver of the pickup, 29-year-old Jorge Ortiz, was issued a citation for failure to yield right of way turning left.
