Minn. EMT dies in driveway van crash

Officials said Scott Novak was driving down his driveway to get his mail when he hit a road sign and went into a ditch

LITTLE FALLS, Minn. — An EMT died last week after his vehicle crashed into a ditch, according to officials.

According to a news release from Morrison County Sheriff’s Office, 17-year Leech Lake EMS veteran EMT Scott Novak was driving his van down his driveway to get his mail when his van went into the ditch and hit a road sign.

Novak was transported to the hospital after police received reports of an unconscious driver, and he later died.

“I was on scene for most of it and all of the emergency services put on an incredible effort,” Novak’s son, Greg, said. “I know he would have been proud as hell.”

“Scott has dedicated most of his life to serving the Leech Lake community with compassion and integrity by giving exceptional patient care and teaching younger generations,” Leech Lake EMS said. “From all of us at Leech Lake EMS & Education, we continue to keep Scott’s family, loved ones and friends in our prayers.”
