CIMARRON HILLS, Colo. — A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise money for the fiancée and unborn child of a Cimarron Hills firefighter-paramedic who died Saturday at his home after being injured recently during training, the department said.
Jermaine Frye, 31, had been hospitalized after a recent on-duty injury. He was released from the hospital Friday evening, but went into cardiac arrest at his home Saturday afternoon, the department said in a news release.
Wescott Fire Protection District first responders tried unsuccessfully to revive him with CPR, Russ Kane,, deputy chief at the Cimarron Hills Fire Department, said Saturday.
The cause of death has not been determined. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
Frye has been a full-time firefighter-paramedic with the Cimarron Hills department since February 2015. Prior to that he had been a part-time and volunteer firefighter.
According to Frye’s LinkedIn profile, he has also worked as a firefighter paramedic in Aurora.
His Facebook page says he is a Colorado Springs native who attended Air Academy High School and studied fire science at Pikes Peak Community College and paramedicine at Red Rocks Community College.
