BALTIMORE, Md. — An off-duty Baltimore paramedic who rushed into a burning building and saved a woman said she just did what came naturally, ABC News reports.
Paramedic Fatima Hawkins spotted the fire on 36th Street before responders arrived, and rushed through the thick smoke to find a woman trapped inside and bring her out. The woman received oxygen when ambulances arrived and was transported to a local hospital.
“Someone is in there, and if I don’t do something quickly, they might die,” she said. “And if I’m able to do something without hurting myself, that’s what I would like to do.”
