ROCK HILL, S.C. — A York man who claimed he was leading a friend to the hospital was arrested in Rock Hill after authorities say he used a police siren application on his smartphone to intimidate drivers and circumvent traffic early Tuesday.

Shortly after midnight, police officers parked at a Herlong Avenue gas station saw and heard a 2001 Ford Mustang blare an audible police siren and flash car emergency lights to “get other vehicles” out of the way, according to a Rock Hill police report.

Officers followed the car as it sped down Herlong Avenue, exceeding at least 80 mph, the report states. The driver pulled up closely behind another car, forcing the other driver to yield as the car pulled into Piedmont Medical Center.
