MEDFORD, Ore. — Owing to a team rescue effort that involved some delicate maneuvering from a local helicopter company, a hiker who fell dozens of feet down an embankment in a remote area outside Ashland was safely carried to a nearby hospital.
A man who fell from Lost Creek Falls near Shale City Road was airlifted from the base of the falls Wednesday in a delicate rescue that involved two helicopters and multiple first responders, according to a news advisory from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
JCSO search-and-rescue staff, with the help of Brim Aviation of Ashland, hoisted the fall victim out of the ravine according to the sheriff’s office, which also provided video of the rescue.
Once out of danger, search-and-rescue personnel handed the man to Mercy Flights paramedics, and he was airlifted to the hospital.
Jackson County Fire District No. 5 praised Brim Aviation and the rescue team.
“Our hats are off to the pilot and crew for completing this difficult rescue,” Fire District 5 stated in a release.
The patient was not identified. A message to the sheriff’s office seeking the man’s condition was not immediately returned Friday afternoon.
